So, what’s this? Does the internet really need another blog about music, guitars and gear?
– Probably not.
Is it possible for anyone to write about these things in ways that hasn’t already been done to death?
– You tell me.
Will that stop me from having my way with this blog?
– No, definitely not.
Who am I?
My name is Stig (yes, really) and I live a couple of miles outside of Oslo. Through writing here I’d like to show you a couple of things I’ve found out about guitar playing, gear, recording and music itself. I hope to be able to demonstrate some concepts and insights that probably won’t be revolutionary, but hopefully at least evolutionary.
I’ve at different times worked as a music producer, writer/composer and guitar teacher. These days I work in language education for the most part, but music is still something that occupies my
easily distracted concious mind when I really should be doing something else.
UPDATE 14 August 2017:
Fun or Profit?
I’ve been thinking a lot about all sorts of very current advertising and/or money-earning schemes such as content marketing, affiliation, endorsements etc. The question is if this site is to be something done for fun or for profit. I think of those concepts as mutually exclusive. It would also influence the following bit about privacy, as generating revenue in this format almost always hinges on some more-or-less anonymised information about you – the reader – changing hands.
It’s also a question of the site’s tone & feel, for lack of a better term. First of all, if I were to make money from writing, I’d have to write in a way that brings the reader to some sort of purchase point, where either goods or services are sold. Secondly, I’d probably have to compromise in some way regarding the stuff I’d write about, or the way it was written. Finally, it would mean selling screen real estate for other people to use for displaying advertisement.
I’ve come to the conclusion that I won’t try to generate revenue from this site. It’ll stay free of advertisements, sponsored content, content marketing, affiliation programmes, and so on – as this is the only way I can be sure that I keep the site as I want it. After all, I started it because I wanted to be a real nerd-fest for guitar players like myself, not to get rich – quickly or otherwise.
What about privacy?
If you contact me, comment or sign up for the newsletter (and I strongly recommend that you do), I will not do anything with the information you give me, apart from what I need to do to reply in an appropriate manner. That means that your e-mail address is perfectly safe, and will not be distributed, sold or lent to anyone.

What’s in it for you?
At different times and to a varying degree, something entertaining, something
annoying educational, and something musical. I’d love to hear from you, so if you see something in a post or article that you want to address, please do! That’s what comments are for. All I ask is that we keep it somewhat civilised, or – failing that – at least humourous. If any of us fails both these requirements, I’ll start deleting things.
Now go and enjoy the posts/articles/rants!
